On Thursday 18th December, the National Executive Committee of the PCS union held an emergency meeting at their headquarters in London. At the meeting the NEC decided to suspend election of the national and all employer group executives for 12 months.
This means that 2015 will be the first year in over a decade where PCS members have not had the opportunity to elect their leadership.
The leadership which has controlled the union in all that time is the Democracy Alliance – a coalition of the union’s Left Unity and PCS Democrats factions. What is ironic is that this same leadership fought tooth and nail both to establish annual elections in the first place and to resist the attempt by former General Secretary Barry Reamsbottom to stay in office in defiance of the union’s rules.
This website will publish all documents relevant to the debate over this decision in order to ensure that any member of the union can have access to the information.
